Active compounds found in burdock exert anti-microbial activity especially against pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The ability to rid the body of harmful microorganisms (both through direct anti-microbial and immune stimulating effects) seems to justify the use of burdock as a general 'blood-purifier' and makes it especially useful for acne, inflammatory skin concerns and candidiasis.
Burdock is a rich source of inulin, a polysaccharide that is known to enhance white blood cell activity. Burdock is often used in traditional Chinese medicine to resolve rashes, red swellings, carbuncles and inflammation such as that associated with eczema and psoriasis.
