Cold Sores

Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1). The virus is activated by the amino acid arginine so avoid foods that contain it including chocolate, nuts and most cereal grains. Another amino acid, called Lysine, inhibits the absorption of arginine to suppress the virus so this is a useful supplement to use, alongside topical natural remedies, if you are prone.
