The pitted, bumpy and dimpled appearance of cellulite is the result of adipose (fat) tissue projecting into the outer layers of the skin. Recent research suggests this may be related to the female hormone, oestrogen, which plays a key role in the breakdown of collagen, the substance that gives skin its elasticity and structure. Current thinking is that it is the destruction of collagen - which would normally keep fat tissue contained in well-organised structures - associated with fatty tissue in the hips and thighs of women that triggers cellulite.

Body brushing together with the use of topical creams containing herbs and nutrients assist the skin to become softer, healthier and smoother and allow it to repair itself more easily.
