LifeTime Vitamins Brite Eyes Formula: AREDS (Age-Related Eye Disease Study), a major clinical trial sponsored by the US National Eye Institute, one of the Federal Government’s National Institutes of Health, reported that Lutein and Zeaxanthin, which are both found in healthy retinas, may help promote healthy visual function. Eyebright and Bilberry herbal extracts may also help to support vision clarity and night vision. LifeTime has just launched a comprehensive eye formulation, Brite Eyes, which includes Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Bilberry, Eyebright, Beta Carotene and all the vitamins and minerals necessary to help support eye health as follows:-
Lutein and Zeaxanthin are antioxidants in the carotenoid family. These carotenoids, found in high concentrations in spinach and kale, concentrate in the part of the retina where macular degeneration strikes. Once there, they protect the retina from damage caused by sunlight. Harvard researchers have reported that people eating the most Lutein and Zeaxanthin, a total of 5.8 mg per day, have a 57% decreased risk of macular degeneration. Lutein and Zeaxanthin can also be taken in supplementation, as in Brite Eyes and the recommended dosage of Lutein should be at least 6 mg per day.
Bilberry’s active bioflavonoid compounds, anthocyanosides, act as an antioxidant in the retina of the eye. This makes it a potential preventive measure against macular degeneration. Eyebright is high in iridoid glycosides, flavonoids and tannins. This plant has astringent properties that helps reduce mucous drainage. Other ingredients include Beta Carotene, another antioxidant, Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Vitamin E (D-Alpha Tocopheryl Acid Succinate) and Zinc, essentially required for vision in the retina.
