Optibac Bifidobacteria & Fibre sachets maintain a healthy balance of good bacteria in your gut and can help to make bowel regularity an every day thing. Optibac Bifido & Fibre is a high quality supplement combining 25 billion live cultures of the scientifically proven Bifidobacterium lactis BB-12. Also with 4g of FOS fibres added to increase your natural gut bacteria.

Optibac Bifido & Fibre is a natural supplement containing a probiotic strain and a prebiotic fibre specifically selected to support normal bowel function. Bifidobacterium lactis BB-12® has been scientifically researched to help maintain regular bowel movements, and is probably the most resarched strain of the B. lactis probiotic in the world. Prebiotics, such as fructooligosaccharides, are the food source for probiotics in the body, and can act as roughage in the bowels. For maintaining regularity can be taken on a regular basis as a maintenance supplement, or as and when desired, in which case the dosage can be adjusted accordingly.

Constipation affects in particular:

  • Worldwide, more people in the West
  • More women than men
  • Infants & children
  • Pregnant women
  • The elderly

It is thought that people with lower levels of good bacteria in the gut are more susceptible to various health conditions including bloating and constipation. Bifidobacterium lactis BB-12® is a type of microorganism, of natural bacteria, also known as live cultures. Fructooligosaccharides is often referred to as a 'prebiotic' and/or a soluble fibre, and is thought to be the food source for the body's natural bacteria; they can be found in certain foods such as Jerusalem artichokes, leeks & onions.

Does Bifido & Fibre have a taste?
The product is flavourless and formulated to be bland and quite pleasant-tasting to make it palatable. If you do not like the flavourless taste then you can simply sprinkle the powder into yoghurt, cereal or other cold foods. Do not put the powder into any food or liquid that is warm as this may damage the supplement. You should also avoid adding the powder to any fruit juice, as citric acid may also damage the supplement.

Does Bifido & Fibre help with sleep?
In 2017 there was a high-profile BBC documentary that generated a lot of interest in the potential for FOS fibres to help with sleep. Whilst the research featured in the programme was very interesting it was a preliminary rat study, and we base our recommendations on the results of gold standard human clinical trials. If you'd like to try Optibac Probiotics Bifido & Fibre note that whilst we usually recommend that our probiotics are taken with breakfast, this supplement is fine to take an hour or so before bed, as the programme suggested.

How many sachets of Optibac Bifido & Fibre should I take a day?
Optibac Bifido & Fibre can be taken with or without food, on an occasional or ongoing daily basis. Daily intake can vary for each person, depending on how you respond or if you're taking fibre in other supplements for constipation. Start with one sachet a day and increase (a sachet at a time), up to a maximum of 4 sachets, spread over the day.

Is it ok to take friendly bacteria supplements every day?
Friendly bacteria supplements are natural - they are not medications and are considered safe to take on a daily basis with very few exceptions*. Live cultures carry no risk of dependency and do not cause the bowel to become ‘lazy’.

Are there any tips on mixing the powder?
We always recommend that you add the powder in our sachets to about an inch of water and swirl the powder in the glass - using a spoon or fork to stir doesn’t seem to be as effective. Continue to swirl until the powder has dissolved and then you may add more water if you wish. It’s best not to add the powder to the glass first and then add the liquid, as it may clump. Alternatively, you can simply sprinkle the powder into yoghurt, cereal or other cold foods. Do not put the powder into any food or liquid that is warm, or add to fruit juice, as this may damage the viability of the friendly bacteria.

Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of young children.
