There are very few people who don’t appreciate a scented candle. In fact, candles are one of the most popular beauty gifts, alongside fragrance and make-up palettes. According to NPD, the home scents market, which includes candles and diffusers, is worth a whopping $49.9 million in the US. It’s no surprise that there are so many varieties available, from scent combination to one or three wick candles.

While there’s no denying we love them, most of us don’t get the most out of our candles and wax can be wasted. “When you light a candle for the first time you need to let the top layer of wax melt,” says Julia, co-founder of Tutti London. “Making sure that the melt pool reaches the edges will ensure the candle burns evenly.” This helps prevent the area around the wick from burning more quickly.
