Post-Holiday Blues

Post-Holiday Blues

The weeks after a holiday can sometimes seem bleak with many people suffering from post-holiday blues. There may be several months before the next holiday is due with very few breaks to look forward to. If the holiday was amazing then this may simply serve to highlight the contrast of day-to-day life at home. If the holiday was a disappointment then this may simply reinforce the sense of being stuck on a stressful treadmill. And just in case you did not know, post-holiday periods are the busiest for divorce lawyers second only to post-Christmas.

Positive ways to cope with post-holiday blues

Many people use their holidays to reflect on their quality of life, the direction that they have taken, the direction they need to take, and perhaps even consider their overall health and happiness. Some of the biggest concerns affecting many people after a holiday include stress, anxiety, mild depression and low energy levels.

My recommendation is to deeply nourish the body with Life Drink by Terra Nova. This supplement contains a blend of concentrated whole foods, freeze-dried botanicals, vegetable protein, green foods, probiotics and digestive enzymes which all work in synergy to enhance energy, nourish the body with vitamins and minerals. The probiotics specifically are known to help with the manufacture of GABA and other neurotransmitters which help relax the mind.

Not only will Life Drink nourish the body and prime it to produce mood elevating and nerve calming neuronutrients, the green food content, specifically chlorophyll, will aid digestion and detoxify the body which may be of benefit after the indulgences of your holiday.

I would also consider the use of a great mood elevating and adaptogenic supplement called Magnolia Rhodiola Complex. An extract of magnolia has been studied and found to help reduce excess cortisol in the body. Additionally, magnolia extracts have been found to exhibit muscle and nerve relaxing properties. Rhodiola, also known as the Arctic root due to its habitat, has been found to increase the uptake by the brain of the mood elevating compound serotonin by as much as 30%. Rhodiola root is one of the most popular adaptogenic herbs used widely to counter depression, low energy levels, compromised immunity and as an aid for concentration. An adaptogen is a herb or compound which helps increase the body’s ability to cope with all types of stressors whether physical, hormonal or emotive.

Consider taking regular exercise. Many people choose to make excuses from refraining to take exercise and yet regular exercise offers multiple benefits to the body. Taking exercise regularly helps you sleep better, manage stress more effectively and when coupled with good nutrition slows down the ageing process.

Finally, some people simply start to plan their next holiday which gives them something to look forward to, which we all need.
