May Newsletter 2011

may2011newsletter

Welcome to the May newsletter where we head towards summer by taking a look at a Swiss suncare range, I introduce you to Golden Delicious (the non-edible kind!), TanGo, the world’s first self-tan removal cloth and I write about lack of libido. Shabir gives us the inside track on HA, I report on the supplement recently featured in The Pharmaceutical Journal and the ever-so-amazing Allison Pearson steps onto ‘The Podium’. Additionally, I bring you all the latest news from the VH Editorial Team and we introduce our new monthly contributor, Margaret Dabbs, as we simultaneously launch her products on our site, which is all rather neat and very exciting. For those amongst us who struggle to relax or sleep, we launch a new outstanding supplement from America, but we begin with an extraordinarily special skincare product, which has been winning awards and smashing records all over the place:

Nude Replenishing Night Oil

There are many products on the market that claim to transform skin overnight, but in all honesty I think I can name only a few that live up to the promise. Having said that, there are of course some amazing products that work over time, but for overnight skin transformation, please allow me to introduce you to Nude’s Replenishing Night Oil. This facial oil is instantly absorbed into the skin and is blended with pure, active oils including macadamia, raspberry, apricot kernel and kukui, together with super-rich omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9, which help restore cellular function. Just apply two drops at bedtime for an overnight facial.

This is serious skincare and I know that is a loaded statement, but of the 10,000 products ever tested by real women for the Beauty Bible series of books (over 14 years), Replenishing Night Oil has just achieved the highest ever score, a remarkable 9.65/10. Sarah and Jo say that the product was up against some of the most high-tech products in the industry, yet out-performed all of them, which is quite something. Their testers were unanimous too, saying that it delivered truly consistent results and it was a ‘real’ anti-ageing product.

So just a few things to say and please read carefully, otherwise you could miss something rather fabulous! Firstly, this oil can of course be used in conjunction with any skincare regime because it is a special night-time treat and the second thing is that anybody who buys a bottle of the Replenishing Night Oil before 10 May 2011, will automatically be put into a prize draw. The lucky person, whose name will be electronically selected, will win a 40 ml Special Edition of Replenishing Night Oil worth just under £120. Please ensure that you enter your correct email details on your order and a telephone number would help too because it would be completely dreadful if you won and we couldn’t find you! So get those fingers tapping and do check out what some of the VH Addicts have been saying about this remarkable product on our Facebook page.

Margaret Dabbs Joins The VH Editorial Team

Margaret Dabbs, the renowned expert behind the Margaret Dabbs Foot Clinics and Beauty for the Feet products, has joined the VH Editorial Team and I am beyond myself with excitement. Writing monthly, Margaret’s first column is completely riveting, so if you want to know why most women have cold feet, then you will need to read her article.
Margaret Dabbs

Before I introduce you to Margaret’s award-winning products, I just want to say a few words about Margaret’s clinics. The Margaret Dabbs Foot Clinic and Nail Spa is at 7 New Cavendish Street, London and the Sole Spa at Liberty is the perfect place to relax and unwind smack, bang in the middle of town. Margaret’s Medical Pedicure is carried out by professional podiatrists and gives your feet a thorough overhaul. It is a pretty sensational treatment and addresses all aspects of foot health, so it is no surprise to me that patients are referred to Margaret from many specialists and doctors in the Harley Street vicinity, and yes, I’ve had the treatment, of course!

Bringing together a fusion of health and beauty with her product range, it has been designed to keep feet feeling and looking beautiful, but also treats common foot complaints such as dehydrated, dry cracked skin, brittle nails and fungal infections. The integration of health and beauty is paramount to Margaret’s result driven, high performance foot care products. The key ingredient, around which the majority of the products are based, is Australian organic Emu Oil. Renowned for its incredible healing properties, and aboriginal in origin, Emu Oil has been used medicinally for around 40,000 years. It is easily absorbed into the skin’s dermal layers, has low irritability, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. Lemon Myrtle provides the signature light refreshing scent to soothe and relax. So that said, here are the products:

Margaret Dabbs Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion: Simply astonishing – a lotion that truly does all the things you would want it to do. With the use of Emu Oil, this lotion gives results even beyond your expectations. It penetrates the dermal layers and moisturises, replenishes and revitalises the skin, leaving the feet illuminated, refreshed and light.
Margaret Dabbs Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion £25 for 200 ml

Margaret Dabbs Intensive Treatment Foot Oil: This combination of Emu Oil and natural ingredients can be applied to the skin of the feet and nails to give long lasting and effective relief from dehydrated, cracked and broken skin and nails. It can be used daily for over-dry skin, or weekly as a luxury treatment to maintain the beauty of the feet. My feet seriously love this product and amazing results are achieved from the moment you massage this unique dry oil onto your feet.
Margaret Dabbs Intensive Treatment Foot Oil £20 for 100 ml

Margaret Dabbs Exfoliating Foot Mousse: Using Ground Tea Tree Leaf and Pumice, scrub your feet to perfection. Feel the scrub work to help remove the dead layers of skin. Simply apply the scrub all over the feet with your hands, paying special attention to the heels and any areas of callus. Wash the scrub away with lukewarm water.
Margaret Dabbs Exfoliating Foot Mousse £15 for 100 ml

Margaret Dabbs Hydrating Foot Soak: Tired over-worked feet are transformed using Emu Oil to moisturize and Lemon Myrtle to relax. This Hydrating Foot Soak will help soothe and moisturize your feet, energise and stimulate the skin and help relax the mind. It can be used daily for over-tired feet, or weekly as a luxury treatment to maintain the beauty of the feet. I am going to go one step further and tell you to throw a handful of Magnesium Oil Original Flakes into the mix because these two products are made for each other and used on a regular basis, your feet will probably never ache again.
Margaret Dabbs Hydrating Foot Soak £20 for 200 ml; Magnesium Oil Original Flakes £9.95 for 1 kg

Margaret Dabbs Nourishing Nail & Cuticle Serum: I have been using this serum over the past few weeks, primarily because when I had my dramatic week in hospital (see April newsletter), I managed to trap my thumb in a hospital door and had to have emergency plastic surgery. I’m not going to go into the vile details, but let’s just say that my entire thumb nail got ripped off, this serum is saving my thumb from infection and Margaret has promised to reconstruct my nail when it starts growing through. Who knew that such things could be done! Anyway, this is another one of Margaret’s unique formulations blended with Tea Tree and Emu Oil. Used on a daily basis, the serum is quickly absorbed leaving nails healthy with a glowing buffed appearance. Just apply a thin layer to cover the nail and cuticle on the hands and feet.
Margaret Dabbs Nail & Cuticle Serum £10 for 15 ml

Margaret Dabbs Glamorous Shimmer: A gorgeous foot treatment based on the healing properties of emu oil. It is a dry oil spray containing suspended particles of gold. I’m so excited about this product because it means that our feet are going to look more than fabulous all through the summer. This has ‘addiction’ written all over it!
Margaret Dabbs Glamorous Shimmer £20 for 30 ml

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) – The Anti-Ageing Nutrient

In my imaginary Utopian world, I would like every single one of you to take HA, irrespective of your age, because as far as I’m concerned, to live without HA would be like living without food and water. It is one of my all-time essential supplements because it multi-tasks and I swear that without it I would look decades older – seriously! HA’s journey is a fascinating one and as we have just launched the ‘next generation’ HA (all 200 mg of it!), Shabir has posted an article on the editorial section of our site giving the ‘in-depth’ on this amazing supplement. You can read it here and if you haven’t already joined me in taking HA, please do so because it is truly miraculous.
Hyaluronic Acid Capsules High Strength by NHS Labs £35 for 30 Capsules

Skin Restoring Ceramides

I first wrote about the research behind ceramides in the March newsletter, which was so outstanding that I made Shabir find all of us the best ceramide supplement available. Taken with HA, it is a marriage made in heaven, but it really comes into its own for people who are prone to eczema and psoriasis. It is also hugely beneficial for mature and dry skin conditions as well as general skin health.

Our knowledge about the function of the skin has increased dramatically in the past couple of decades, which has led to a better understanding of varying skin conditions. A report in The Pharmaceutical Journal (April edition), highlights the necessity of ceramides and in 1991 a study concluded that there was a marked reduction in ceramide levels in the skin of atopic individuals. A further study in 2004 found a correlation between a lack of ceramide levels and the clinical severity of psoriasis lesions.

To conclude, you can read what I wrote about ceramides here, it has leapt straight onto my top five must-take supplements and also onto our bestsellers list. Every now and again, a truly outstanding supplement arrives on the scene and this is in that hallowed league. If I was asked what my current anti-ageing trilogy would be (actually I haven’t been asked, but who cares!), it would just have to be HA, Skin Restoring Ceramides and Replenishing Night Oil. A killer combination that defies gravity, knives and needles – seriously!
Skin Restoring Ceramides with Lipowheat by Life Extension £25 for 30 Liquid Capsules; Replenishing Night Oil £44

TanGo – The World’s First Self-Tan Removal Cloth

I’m sure that many of you have had self-tan disasters over the years and although the quality of self-tans have improved dramatically recently (notably Famous Dave’s, which we think is one of the best ever fake tan brands), there are still a lot of self-tanning errors happening. Although there are many exfoliating products and self-tan remover creams on the market, a solution was needed to help remove a sunless tan in a safe and easy way.

The solution was the launch, three years ago in Australia, of the world’s first self-tan remover cloth, TanGo. This innovative product has just arrived in the UK and is providing the smartest possible strategy to keeping your skin looking flawless, bronzed and safe. TanGo is a specially formulated polyamide cloth, which gently removes the tanning pigment from the surface of your skin without using harsh chemicals and/or scrubbing your skin until it is red raw. It is as easy as WET ME, SQUEEZE ME, RUB ME. No more orange hands and feet, just a perfect flawless tan. We recommend using TanGo before every self-tan application (the difference it makes is pretty incredible) so say goodbye to tan build-up and errors because I think that if you are a self-tan fanatic, the TanGo will be one of the best investments you will make. With proper care, the cloth will last up to six months. Go TanGo!

Insomnia and Bioactive Milk Peptides

If you find yourself routinely struggling to fall asleep, or stay asleep, you are not alone. Scientists attribute sleep-related difficulties to the unprecedented levels of stress that most of us endure in today’s fast-paced world. As we get older, the quality and duration of sleep decline at a time when we really need the health benefits of a good night’s rest. The consequences of sleep deprivation go far beyond the miseries of fatigue and diminished performance. Decades of clinical research document that a good night’s rest supports nearly all the systems of the body, including skin health, cardiovascular health and mood. In the search for natural ways to help combat insomnia, researchers have isolated a set of nutritional compounds called ‘bioactive milk peptides’ that help promote sustained and restful sleep patterns, while inducing a state of relaxation.

For generations, mothers have given their children a warm glass of milk before bed as a way to help them fall asleep. As far back as 1934, this home remedy gained scientific validation when it was observed that people who ate milk and cornflakes were more likely to enjoy a full night of uninterrupted sleep. In 1997, paediatric researchers added to the evidence by demonstrating that newborns given an infant formula containing milk fell asleep not solely due to nursing and being held, but owing specifically to something in milk itself. In 2000, researchers identified what that ‘something’ was. It showed that nutrients found in cow’s milk, called bioactive peptides, exert a sedative effect on the brain and help induce sleep patterns.

At the core of Bioactive Milk Peptides’ sedative effect is a demonstrated power to effectively blunt the stress response, a primary causative factor in insomnia. Stress, anxiety and sleep deprivation share one crucial feature in common, each prompts the adrenal glands to secrete cortisol, the stress hormone. Since most people now encounter significant stress in their daily lives, chronic cortisol over-exposure probably accounts, to a great extent, for the extraordinary prevalence of insomnia today. Bioactive Milk Peptides (Lactium) is a cutting-edge complex consisting of patented bioactive peptides found naturally in milk. As with most natural supplementation, this is not an overnight ‘wonderdrug’, but taken over time we believe that it will help make a significant and positive difference to irregular sleeping patterns, stress and insomnia.
Bioactive Milk Peptides £19.95 for 30 Capsules

The Podium

It is just over a year since Allison Pearson’s ‘landmark’ article, ‘Depression’s the curse of my generation and I’m struggling in its grasp’, appeared in the Daily Mail (DM). It was her final fling as a DM columnist and the ripple effects of that article are still discussed one year on. There have been many times over the past year when I have wanted to write about it, but haven’t, so on its virtual anniversary, I urge you to read that article here as I extend an invitation to one of the greatest chroniclers of our generation, the very brave and courageous Allison Pearson, to step onto The Podium.

I am not even going to attempt to try and follow Allison’s eloquent words. She has told it as it is and she is the voice of millions of people who struggle with depression and anxiety. All I will say is that the stigma about mental illness has to stop, right here, right now. I’m not sure that I know too many people who haven’t been affected by depression or anxiety at some stage in their lives and for others it is an ongoing battle. None of us know what goes on behind closed doors or what is behind the smile that so often masks the pain. It is not our place to be judgmental because at a flick of a switch, any of us can disappear down that familiar black hole and it can often take many years before a glimpse of light can be seen on the horizon.

One year on, Allison is now a weekly columnist and chief interviewer for The Telegraph, so do follow her column every Wednesday. She is the award-winning author of two bestselling books, ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’ about working mothers having to juggle their lives, which has been adapted for a film starring Sarah Jessica Parker due to be released later this year, and ‘I Think I Love You’, which follows a teenage girl’s obsession with David Cassidy.

Temple Spa – Golden Delicious

I’m beginning to think that I’m deranged because after admitting that I failed to understand why we hadn’t listed Eyes Wide Open, which incidentally has become an instant bestseller, I have found another Temple Spa product that we haven’t listed. Last time I blamed Shabir, so I could blame him again, but he will probably take revenge by hiding my HA and Skin Ceramides, so I suppose I should take full responsibility this time. So please forgive me for keeping this product a secret, but at least I am going to tell you about it at the right time of year and it’s rather fabulous, so let’s go:

Golden Delicious: Temple Spa call this liquid sunshine in a bottle and it is a super smooth, sheer gel that glides over the skin, leaving it looking healthy and bronzed. It has a lightweight sheer transparent finish and it looks completely natural on both men and women, so nobody would even know that you had anything on your face. It is non-permanent and washes off with a cleanser, so it doesn’t have a gradual, build up stain. I love this because it is a great alternative to foundation and if your face is tanned, it helps even everything out so you don’t look blotchy and that, I’ve decided, is a very good thing. Girls, blend a swipe of one of Valerie’s face sticks on your cheekbones and we are done. I use Tahiti Tan during the summer months.
Golden Delicious by Temple Spa £20 for 30 ml; Face Stick – Tahiti Tan by Valerie Beverly Hills £30

Lack of Libido

Over the years I have often referred to Chris Kilham, aka The Medicine Hunter, and on occasion I have enjoyed the privilege of working with him. Chris is one of the world’s leading ethnobotanists and he travels the world in search of traditional plant-based medicines. Ask him for his top recommendation for boosting libido and he chooses Maca, hands down. ‘It is a powerful sex enhancer and it has absolute zero toxicity,’ he says. ‘As an adaptogen (stress modulator), Maca root has long been used in Peru to help the body maintain healthy hormone levels in the face of stress or illness’.

There are varying factors why so many of us lack libido at certain times of our lives, but one reason could be the dulling of libido that may occur as a side effect of taking anti-depressants. In a small study carried out in 2009, it was found that men and women who were on anti-depressants discovered that taking Maca daily provided a ‘significant improvement’ in sexual function. Another probable cause of sexual dysfunction is vaginal dryness, highly common in menopausal women, it is a result of dipping oestrogen levels and in this instance we highly recommend Natural Six Lubricant, a natural blend that is safe to use on a daily basis. It’s good stuff.
Maca Herb by HealthAid £10.49 for 60 Tablets; Natural Six Lubricant £12.95 for 59 ml

Ultrasun

I like people who are passionate about their work, in fact I like them a lot and Ultrasun fall into this category. They care about protecting your skin from the harmful effects of over-exposure to the sun’s rays and their products have been formulated so that you just need one application a day to deliver high level protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Their products are free from oils, emulsifiers and perfume, reducing the risk of allergy and making them especially suitable for children and sensitive skins.

There are eight products in the Ultrasun range; Medium 20 SPF Sports (a clear gel formula); High 30 SPF Sports (clear spray formula); Medium 20 SPF Sensitive (glimmer formula); High 30 SPF Super Sensitive (family formula); very high 50+ Ultra Sensitive (extreme formula) and High 30 SPF (anti-ageing formula). They have two extra care products, Aftersun and Ultralip 15 SPF.

I am going to write about three of the products here, but you can see the entire range by clicking on the link below. Just one more thing to add. All the Ultrasun products are formulated to help prevent prickly heat, but if you really want to play it safe, then we recommend that you also take Stinging Nettles Root, preferably starting seven days before you go into the sun.
Ultrasun; Stinging Nettles Root by Swanson £14.95 for 120 Capsules

Ultrasun Glimmer 20: This formulation is in an airless pump dispenser to help prevent product deterioration and contamination. Its patented Liposome Complex helps carry moisture deep into the skin and delivers high all day protection with just one application. It’s tiny, golden ‘glimmers’ help raise protection by deflecting the sun’s rays and add an attractive golden glow to the surface of the skin, which I have to say excited me rather a lot. One more product, in a long line of them, to go into my bag!
Ultrasun Glimmer 20 £22 for 150 ml

Ultrasun Sports 30 Spray: This is a clear spray formula, which is really easy to apply and is ideal for all outdoor, water sports and gardening enthusiasts. It is especially recommend for use on the scalp if you have thinning or receding hair. I think that’s clever!
Ultrasun Sports 30 Spray £26 for 150 ml

Ultrasun Ultra Sensitive 50+: This extreme formulation absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feel and is loaded with Vitamin E and pro-vitamin B5. Water, sweat and friction resistant, it offers optimal protection, especially under extreme sun conditions requiring particularly high sun protection.
Ultrasun Ultra Sensitive 50+ £19 for 100 ml

News and Feedback

Before anything, I would just like to say thank you for your emails and calls about our new site and this is only the beginning. I’m not quite sure where we are going to end up, but over the next few weeks we will be making many more changes to the site, which I hope you will enjoy. It has always been paramount for us to share, so we welcome your comments on the editorial section of our site and on Facebook. I am going to write about some of this month’s editorial content later in this newsletter, but for now, a couple of things you need to know:

The Anti-Ageing Beauty Bible: It has sold out! Seriously, within a month of publication there were none left. A massive testimony to the brilliance of Sarah and Jo, this just has to be the fastest selling book in the Beauty Bible series ever. We all had a feeling this could happen, so whilst it is an incredible achievement for the girls, the downside is that there is now a waiting list. At this moment, we are being told that we should receive further supplies around the middle of May, so may I suggest that if you haven’t got the book yet, you put your name down on the list otherwise it could be Christmas before you get a copy!
The Anti-Ageing Beauty Bible £12.99 (Recommended retail price £19.99)

Clean & Lean with James Duigan: I introduced James to each of you on the April newsletter, but in case you missed it James is one of the top personal trainers in the world and he has trained Elle Macpherson for the past ten years. I still can’t really believe that James is now ‘one of us’, but I’m not going to dwell on that and I’ll just refer you to why James believes that clean equals lean and why toxins make you fat. Check it out here and then read on for some more exciting news from James:

A flabby tummy is such a common complaint and we get so many emails about this subject so if you want to know the healthy way to help achieve a totally toned tummy in 14 days, then you will definitely want a copy of James’ new book,’ Flat Tummy Fast’. James shows you how to eat your way to a flat stomach, with flexible meal plans, recipes and tips on avoiding the cravings that can lead you off track, plus a step-by-step illustrated guide to the best exercises for a totally toned tummy.

So with a headline quote on the front cover of the book from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who says that ‘nobody can get a stomach as flat as James can’, I’m thinking that I might just go and get myself a pair of trainers and take James up on his offer to train me, or alternatively I could just read the book, which is probably a far safer option for me. The embarrassment of being completely useless in the gym doesn’t come too high up on my agenda. Last words on the subject, this is James’ second book and follows on from ‘Clean & Lean’, so I think it would be rather a good to be just like me and have both.
Clean & Lean Diet by James Duigan £7 (Recommended retail price £12.99); Clean & Lean Flat Tummy Fast! By James Duigan £8.25 (Recommended retail price £12.99)

Shabir’s Spring Pick-Me-Up

We have received many emails and calls about feeling completely under the weather at the moment and typically this includes having flu-like symptoms or if you have had flu, you can’t seem to completely recover from it. Energy levels are low and many of you are experiencing headaches, which under normal circumstances you don’t get. If you are going through this, then do try Shabir’s Spring Pick-Me-Up. You can take this supplement cocktail for a month, but you can continue for a couple of months if you wish:

Co-Enzyme Q10: To help replenish the levels of this energizing antioxidant enzyme in the body.
Sibergin: To kick-start the adrenals, which are responsible for stress management and energy production.
My Favorite Multiple Energiser: A food-state nutrient which is readily absorbed into the body and will help re-build the immune system.
Co-Enzyme Q10 by LifeTime Vitamins £18.75 for 30 Softgels; Sibergin £15.49 for 30 Capsules; My Favorite Multiple Energiser £15.50 for 60 Tablets

Kneipp

I have always loved Kneipp and to my mind their products are the ‘comfort food’ of this industry. Kneipp have been manufacturing contemporary products for health and wellbeing since 1891 and they have just released some new products, so shut your eyes Shabir, because I’ve already started stashing these far away from our shelves! Check out all the Kneipp products, but here are three of my favourite new releases:

Bath Oil Collection: I wept the day I found out that the previous collection had been discontinued because they made such great gifts and I always kept a few boxes at home, but I am rejoicing because the new collection is just as fabulous. There are six different oils, each will last for 1-2 baths and for maximum benefit, and it is recommended that you wallow in your bath for at least 15 minutes. The six oils are: Warm Embrace Bath; Pure Bliss Bath; Eucalyptus; Sensual Seduction Bath; Valerian & Hops and Lavender. All amazing.
Bath Oil Collection by Kneipp £8.95 (Pre-order only)

Pure Bliss Bath: This you are going to love. Formulated with natural essential oils of Red Poppy and Hemp, this blend is designed to provide an overwhelming sense of wellbeing and relaxation. Interesting ingredients; Red Poppy is considered a symbol for dreams and Hemp Oil is considered to be one of nature’s most precious natural oils. I am not taking responsibility for anything that happens after you bathe in this, and I’m certainly not taking responsibility for the next one either!
Pure Bliss Bath by Kneipp £7.95 for 100 ml

Sensual Seduction Bath: Loaded with Black Night Blooming Jasmine and Sweet Almond Oil, I think the least descriptive I can be the better, so I will just say that Jasmine is also known as ‘the oil of romance’. For centuries it has been used as a powerful aphrodisiac because of its relaxing and erotic effects. The Indians called Jasmine ‘Moonlight in the forest’ and I think that is more than enough from me!
Sensual Seduction Bath by Kneipp £7.95 for 100 ml

The VH Editorial Team

I have already written about the latest articles from Margaret Dabbs, James Duigan and Shabir, so do remember to check them out, most especially because Shabir checks the stats morning, noon and night to see how many people are reading his articles! If I was a techno-whizz (which clearly I’m not) then I would be very tempted to ‘manipulate’ the stats downwards on the days when he drives me mad, just because it would make me laugh and then I could write about it. As it is, the response to his article on HA has been so amazing, I fear I will never hear the end of it. Sigh!

Our guest contributor this month is the wonderful Kirsten Carriol, creator of Lanolips, who writes about her journey and her love of lanolin. We journey to Brazil with Kate Shapland as she continues her leg-quest; Jo Fairley writes about must-have-masks and together with Sarah for Beauty Bible, we learn about the best Beauty Bible beauty tips ever. Finally, after virtually a month of Mercury being in retrograde (during which time our Beauty a/c on Twitter went awol for a week!), renowned Astrologer, Shelley von Strunckel writes Health Stars for May. I really hope you enjoy reading all of them.

Excuse Me Whilst I Put My Feet Up

I love moments like this. Sadly for me it doesn’t happen on every newsletter, but occasionally I let other people write about our products on this newsletter, which means I get to put my feet up and eat grapes or Maltesers (LOVE Maltesers!). I was going to write about Maui Babe Browning Lotion anyway because nothing comes close to the brilliance of this stuff (and it is the genuine one, there are a lot of fakes around!), but then by way of a miniature miracle, I discovered that Maui Babe is amongst the products being featured on the VH page of Beauty Bible, so over to Sarah and Jo for a few product reviews and you can read the rest at beautybible.com.

Maui Babe Browning Lotion: The quick tanning sensation of last year is set to be this summer’s runaway favourite too. It contains a tan accelerator made from an old secret family formula – from folk on the Hawaiian island of course, and using natural Hawaiian ingredients including aloe vera. It’s not a stain or a self tanner but a product that speeds up the tanning process so you get a gorgeous deep tan in very little time. It’s water-resistant and the big bonus? Insects hate it.
Maui Babe Browning Lotion £23 for 236 ml

Lemonaid Lip Aid by Lanolips: Oh yummy! This tastes like the lemon sherbet of our youth – and it does your lips a power of good, exfoliating (that’s the organic lemon oil) and super-moisturising (that’s the medical grade lanolin). We love.
LemonAid Lip Aid £8.99

Nail Magic: This is genius. Every woman who knows about it is raving. Flaking weak nails get strong. You don’t have to put it on that often either. Unless you have the strongest talons in the world, just get it!
Nail Magic £9.95

The Last Bit

Hay Fever: I’m sacking Shabir as my hay fever monitor. Under normal circumstances (and because he is a man) he always has the very first sneeze of the season, followed rapidly by a streaming nose and red eyes, but so far this year nothing has happened to him. Now I know that other people are suffering, so it is a mystery to me why he hasn’t joined in. I’m sure that when he reads this he will start rubbing his eyes, so I’m a bit reluctant to let him see this, but that said, this is just to remind you that over the years, the feedback on Aller-DMG has been incredible and helps the vast majority of people to cope with hay fever and all allergic symptoms.
Aller-DMG £15.90 for 60 Tablets; Similasan Eye Drops for Allergy Eye Relief £9.95 for 10 ml

Konjac Sponges: Together with Jo Fairley, I have been a long-term user of the Konjac sponge and the thing is that I truly believe that in a year’s time, everyone will be using a Konjac sponge as an integral part of an optimum skincare regime because nothing can touch the Konjacs for their cleansing and moisturizing qualities. Nothing, nothing, nothing!
Konjac Sponges £12

Wondercap: Just a word about the amazing Wondercap. After my little hospital stint (see April newsletter) my hair was in an unhappy state, so I give thanks to the Wondercap for saving my hair. Just a couple of deep conditioning treatments with the cap plonked on top of my head made all the difference. There are two deep conditioners I like, one is Guardian Angel, a sample of which is included with the Wondercap, and the other one is Hairwonder’s Hair Repair Hair Mask.
Wondercap £30; Hairwonder Hair Repair Hair Mask £8.20 for 200 ml

Yes To Cucumbers: Just released, the new Soothing Cucumber Facial Kit, which includes a pack of the Natural Glow Facial Towelettes, the Daily Calming Facial Moisturiser and the Soothing Eye Gel. So cute and a great introduction to the Cucumbers range for all of you avid ‘Yes To’ fans.
Soothing Cucumber Facial Kit by Yes to Cucumbers £19.99

Lichi Super Fruit Diet: I wrote on the April newsletter that this product was going completely bonkers in California and I can now report that we have replicated the madness over here. If you missed the launch of Lichi, then read it here, but just know that in an extraordinarily over-crowded sector of the health industry, Lichi stands head and shoulders above the crowd because if used correctly, it does what it says on the bottle.
Lichi Super Fruit Diet £30 for 90 Softgels

Bee Sting Lip Plump & Pucker Up: I love these products so much that I am extending the Launch Exclusive for another month. Meanwhile, we are on our second consignment because the Launch Exclusive was a runaway bestseller and that has made me very happy because no other lip plump comes anywhere close and trust me, I’ve tried most of them.
Launch Exclusive: Bee Sting Lip Plump & Pucker Up £35

Eyes Wide Open: The accolades keep pouring in for Eyes Wide Open because it brings instant relief to tired, puffy eyes and on top of that it’s great for hay fever eyes. Top Tip: Squirt some onto two cotton wool pads, place one on each eye and relax for five or ten minutes. One of the best and quickest spa tips for wide-awake, sparkling eyes. It’s love.
Eyes Wide Open by Temple Spa £15 for 150 ml

Famous Dave’s Gradual 10: Ever since we released Famous Dave’s last year, we have received loads of comments about how absolutely great this range is. Things like that make me happy and so it was no surprise to me that when we launched Famous Dave’s Gradual 10, which builds a tan gradually, it would become one of the bestselling products in the range. So if you just want a light tan, or want to be in control of how dark you want to go, do try this because it really is rather brilliant.

With love
