December Newsletter

Catching a falling star

Well here we are and this is it. The final newsletter of the year and it’s the VH Awards, that annual event where I dole out the accolades to the brands, products and people who have shone like the brightest stars in the sky. As ever, nobody has voted and I rather like it that way. This gives me free reign over all and everything, including the treats and gifts that are mentioned throughout this newsletter, of which there are several.

But truly, what would a newsletter be without the launch of new products and that is where I am going first. Actually it’s rather a big launch, huge in fact and it’s from Ameliorate. Always expect the unexpected is what I think and I’m not sure that any of us saw this coming, but here it is, the global and exclusive launch of Ameliorate’s Scalp Care:

Ameliorate Scalp Care

Smooth. Skin. Science. The mission statement of Ameliorate. Five years after launching the massively successful Ameliorate body care range on a health platform, I am doing the same again and launching Ameliorate’s Scalp Care on a health, not beauty, platform. In so doing we are focusing on an innovative and scientifically tested journey to help address numerous scalp concerns, which includes helping to restore and relieve the discomfort of dry, red, flaky scalps.

The scalp consists of five layers and the Stratum Corneum, the outermost layer, helps lock moisture into the scalp. Nutrients are carried to the scalp via a network of blood vessels, which are necessary for cell renewal and hair growth. A high number of lipid and sweat glands are also needed to produce sebum, which forms a protective barrier for the scalp in varying ways. A lack of sebum production has been shown, in some instances, to be accompanied by white, dry, flaky skin, which can have an impact on the Stratum Corneum’s ability to retain moisture.

Research has also shown that certain shampoos, hair drying, perming, pollution and air-conditioning, to name but a few, can all disturb the natural moisture balance of the scalp, often leading to dryness and discomfort. It is on this premise, that I can now (tra-la-la-la-la) reveal Ameliorate’s Scalp Care collection.

Powered by Ameliorate’s unique LaH6 Hydration Complex and Omega Oil Therapy, these technologies work simultaneously to gently resurface the uppermost layers of the scalp whilst providing intense moisture and nourishment. The collection includes a Clarifying Shampoo, Smoothing Conditioner, Transforming Scalp Serum and a Clarifying Scalp Exfoliant. The complete scalp care system is also available in a Regime Kit with the exclusive addition of the Smoothing Scalp Essence; more on that soon, but first:

Ameliorate Transforming Scalp Serum: Formulated to help resurface the upper layers of the scalp, this serum should be applied before you go to bed, much in the same way as you would use an overnight skincare serum. It will give you a hit of intense moisture and comfort from itching as you sleep. Celery Seed Oil provides a moisture-rich environment for microflora and Frankincense Extract helps reduce the appearance of redness. Wash your hair thoroughly the morning after use.
Ameliorate Transforming Scalp Serum £20 for 125 ml

Ameliorate Clarifying Scalp Exfoliant: A gentle physical and chemical exfoliating cleanser, this helps reduce the appearance of dry and flaky scalps, while respecting the natural pH balance of the scalp. Lactic acid helps to soften dead skin cells and a cellulose scrub gently helps remove debris.
Ameliorate Clarifying Scalp Exfoliant £20 for 125 ml

Ameliorate Clarifying Shampoo: A cleansing, replenishing and natural moisture-enhancing shampoo which nourishes both hair and scalp. The formula is packed with high efficacious conditioning actives, which aid detangling and maintain natural volume and shine. Dry scalps also benefit from the soothing effects of Prebiotic Therapy with shots of Lactitol and Xylitol.
Ameliorate Clarifying Shampoo £16 for 250 ml

Ameliorate Smoothing Conditioner: A rich, replenishing creamy conditioner which is weightless and smoothing thanks to the additions of shea butter, sweet almond oil and pea peptides leaving hair soft, hydrated and smooth.
Ameliorate Smoothing Conditioner £18 for 250 ml

And the star of the show, in my humble opinion, is the Ameliorate Scalp Care Regime Kit. This contains generous travel sizes of the above four products as well as Smoothing Scalp Essence, an ultra-fine non-greasy spray which can be applied throughout the day to instantly help relieve discomfort and condition the scalp. Ask it to dance and it will probably do that too!

It is my belief that if you have scalp issues, and it is a very common concern, then you would most certainly benefit by using all of the products to help eradicate dry, red, flaky skin. Ameliorate say that in an independent clinical trial, beneficial results on the condition of the scalp were seen in seven days, but I’m not saying that. All I am saying is that this kit is a wonderful way to try the products and if you love what they do, then you can go on and buy the ‘big boys’ later.
Ameliorate Scalp Care Regime Kit £45

Finally, the Smoothing Scalp Essence will not be released as a stand-alone product until some time next year, but at this point I’m not sure when, so that’s a wrap, an Ameliorate wrap, and onto the awards, and other things, we go:

The Bestselling Supplement of the Year Award

And the winner is: Ionicell. For the second year running this next-generation skin, hair and nail supplement has knocked Hyaluronic Acid Capsules High Strength into second place, but then it is a superstar of a product and continues to cement our total belief in the wonders of Fulvic Acid.

Powered by Ioniplex, a Fulvic ionic mineral that contains up to 65 essential macro and trace minerals, it helps protect against cellular damage, increasing cellular energy and ramping up the effectiveness of other supplements. Celebrating skin integrity, healthy hair and super-rapid nail growth, we share:

The Treat: I’m not sure how long this will last, so whilst it does, and you will need to be quick, we are re-introducing the Ionicell Twin Pack, which is £30 for 120 Capsules, so you save £10, alongside your hair, skin and nails.
The Ionicell Twin Pack £30 (Ionicell £20 for 60 Capsules); Hyaluronic Acid Capsules High Strength £35 for 30 Vegecaps

The Bestselling Beauty Product of the Year Award

And the winner is: Vitamin C 23% Serum + Ferulic Acid. This is starting to look like last year’s awards because for the second year running, GoW’s Vitamin C has won the bestselling beauty product award. Continually hailed as one of the best Vitamin C skincare products on the market in its genre, I just want to say that I ran the stats several times because it was a very close call. No prizes for guessing the runner-up. It will appear soon. And so:

The Treat: For 24 hours only, you can buy Vitamin C 23% Serum + Ferulic Acid for £8 instead of £10. This offer will end at precisely 12 noon GMT tomorrow, Wednesday 4 December 2019, but it could end sooner if we run out of stock, which could well happen. ***Sorry this Promotion has ended***

The Pioneering Beauty Product of the Year Award

And the winner is Vice Reversa. With a tag-line of ‘helping undo what life does’, we launched Vice Reversa on the April newsletter and in so doing we were at the scientific forefront of groundbreaking, pioneering technology, offering two versions of micro-needling patches, plumping and pimple.

With a global patent across Vice Reversa’s micro-needing patches, this is still an emerging category in beauty, but as ever, all things are not created equally and that is certainly the case in micro-needling patches.

Together with Arthur Mitroulas, Founder of Vice Reversa, we lead by example and without doing chapter and verse, I will just say that the volume of needles on each patch matters, the sharpness and integrity (from a health perspective) remain crucial to efficacy together with the ability to hold several active ingredients in each dissolvable needle, not just one ingredient.

The treat will follow, but firstly I must thank Arthur for allowing me to fly solo with him on this in the UK and for his unwavering support and understanding, which is no small thing after three years of relentless research and development; his, not mine!

And over in Australia, from whence these came, Prevention magazine has literally just announced Vice Reversa as a finalist in the 2019 Prevention Beauty Innovation Awards. Without any nomination process, this award was not paid for. That matters to us. The collective us.

The Treat: This is a limited edition treat; we only have a certain volume available and please don’t fall over when you read this otherwise you may not be able to reach your keyboard.

The Vice Reversa Plumping Patches are £34.95 for eight patches and the Vice Reversa Pimple Patches are £19.95 for eight patches. We’ve lumped them into twin packs for this momentous occasion. So the Plumping Patches become £45 for 16 patches (saving £24.90) and the Pimple Patches become £30 for 16 patches (saving £9.90). Get. Them. Now.
Micro-Needling Plumping Patches Twin Pack £45 (16 Patches); Micro-Needling Pimple Patches £30 (16 Patches)

The Gift That Keeps On Giving Award

And the winner is: Spacemasks. I love Spacemasks. I have always loved Spacemasks and this won’t be the first time I have given them an award and I doubt it will be the last. Creating the space in your mind to relax by gently warming your eye area, Spacemasks help remove tension and allow you to switch off, helping you rest and prepare for a proper sleep. With five masks in each pack, each lasting approximately 15 minutes, I make that 75 minutes of giving, to ourselves or others. Actually both will do.

The Treat: When you buy a pack of Spacemasks, we will automatically (this will not show on your invoice) throw in one extra Spacemask (making six masks) to either use yourself or to share with somebody else. Great stocking filler.
Spacemasks £15 for Five Masks

The Most-Wanted Oil of the Year Award (Incorporating The Bestselling Beauty Product of the Year – Runner Up)

And the winner is: 100% Pure Prickly Pear Seed Oil. Of course it is. After Nigella Lawson wrote her veritable love letter to Prickly Pear (and to us) on that last weekend in August in The Sunday Times, life took a somewhat chaotic swerve. I could of course give it a third award here, which would be ‘The Longest Ever Wait List in the History of VH Award’, but I shall refrain lest I take myself back to the height of the drama.

I knew we would get there in the end, but the end was a long-time-coming and if you were on that list, I thank you for your patience, love, understanding and of course the hilarious exchange of emails between so many of us, which sustained me in the midst of the Prickly Pear famine.

As much as I love sharing, I daren’t do a Prickly Pear treat mostly because the re-ordering of this oil is extraordinarily high and I don’t think our website could take the hit. Actually neither could I. All that remains is for me to thank Nigella for sharing her joy of Prickly Pear’s ‘face-saving magic’ with each of you. And before you ask, yes it is in stock. At this moment.
100% Pure Prickly Pear Seed Oil £20 for 30 ml by GoW for VH; In The Press

In my never-ending quest to be neat, I will just follow this through by saying that in the same article, Nigella also declared her love for Temple Spa’s ‘In The Beginning’, which is otherwise known as a hand-blended facial in a jar. This deep cleansing melt provides intensive nourishment to dehydrated skin and it also happens to be one of Temple Spa’s bestselling products, which really doesn’t surprise me.

The Treat: This is a limited edition treat and whilst stocks last we are offering you a supersize In The Beginning. So get ready because the cost is £40 for 150 grams for this double-sized jar, it has a value of £60, which means that you save £20 and a little goes a long, long way.
Supersize In The Beginning £40 for 150 grams

Fabulous Fulvic

Having done a ‘soft launch’ of Fulvic Face Cream on the Addicts Bulletin, we followed this through two weeks later and did the full launch of Fulvic Face Cream on the November newsletter. Never mind that Shabir formulated Fulvic Face Cream for you and me, I have now declared that it is now actually mine, all-mine and if I say it enough times, it may come true.

If you follow the life and times of VH, you will all know that I am a high-end skincare girl, so this was my dream, to create a seriously high-end, luxurious product and putting it in basic, yet smart, packaging. The thing is that packaging won’t make a difference to your skin, the formulation will and it would seem it has, in a wonderful way.

The response has been overwhelming and each time I receive an email on the subject of Fulvic Face I get up and dance because these things matter to me. They matter a lot. I rather liked this statement from an Addict: ‘Possibly my favourite Mr Shabir product. Seductive Texture. Instant Results’.

Because it is such a new product, I can’t actually give it an award, but secretly (not such a secret now) in my head it wins ‘The Best Face Cream of the Year Award’ because I think it is. Regardless, and in celebration of this, the following:

The Treat: With every purchase of Fulvic Face Cream, whilst stocks last, we will automatically throw in two gifts. Two! The first is Fulvic Acid Elixir, the 240 ml size, which is worth £15. I know I recently did this gift on 60 Seconds, but I am absolutely driven on my mission to allow as many of you as possible to take, what I believe to be, one of the must fundamental and far-reaching products for optimum health and wellbeing.

The second gift is Fulvic Acid Nail Cream, which is worth £12. Launched on the May newsletter, Fulvic Acid Nail Cream sold out within days, which added to my long list of product headaches this year. Using Ioniplex, the gold-standard fulvic acid, it majors in strengthening, protecting and repairing nails. A miracle worker for nails. Yes, we think so. Try it and see.

NOTE:  And just when I thought everything was running smoothly, I have literally just discovered that our shipment of Fulvic Face Cream will not arrive for approximately seven days, so I am putting this on pre-order only and we will process and send your order as soon as we can.

Regardless of this small blip (it had to happen on something!), together these gifts are worth £27 and will automatically be included in every order of Fulvic Face Cream until we run out! Please note that these gifts will not be shown individually on your invoice, so please don’t fret. It will be itemised as ‘Fabulous Fulvic’. Apologies for the delay, out of my control, but Fulvic Rules!
Fabulous Fulvic by Ful.Vic.Health £30 (including Fulvic Face Cream £30 for 60 ml; Fulvic Acid Elixir £15 for 240 ml and Fulvic Acid Nail Cream £12 for 30 ml)

Right, let’s gather ourselves for a moment, as I do three non-gift related, but much deserved awards:

Brand of the Year Award

And the winner is: Ameliorate. It had to be really. You might say that I am incredibly biased because not only did we do the global and exclusive launch of the brand in 2014, but we continue to do all their launches and may I say, in so doing they have given me some real heart attack moments this year. And they know it!

The first was when we launched the Rose Limited Edition Transforming Body Lotion on the August newsletter. Never has a launch been quite so limited and with a blink of an eye, the whole lot sold out, never to return. Well actually, never say never, and I hope that at some stage next year it will return, as a permanent fixture. Hold the dream. It’s magnificent.

The second was the launch of Ameliorate’s Intensive Skin Therapy on the September newsletter. Back to back product launches are never easy, and this proved to be the case when this too sold out within the shortest time and had to go on a wait list. After launching Intensive Hand Treatment, Intensive Foot Treatment and Intensive Lip Treatment, this was, according to Ameliorate, the last ‘Intensive’ product in the range. And brilliant it is for dry, cracked skin. And brilliant each of their products are, thus the award.

My personal thanks to Ameliorate for always letting us go first.
AmeliorateIntensive Skin Therapy £15 for 30 ml

The Excellence in Health Products Award

And the winner is: Better You. For the second year running I am giving this award to Better You. Led by Andrew Thomas, Better You go from strength to strength in each passing year and this year has been no exception to that.

Always privileged to launch their products with them, this year saw the arrival of their Vegan Health Daily Oral Spray and their DLux range of products go from strength to strength as the importance of taking Vitamin D ever increases. And then of course what can I say about their Magnesium Oil Original Flakes, other than they are legendary for bathing rituals, which would include aiding sleep and relaxation and helping to alleviate aches and pains.

Andy, keep on doing what you do because you always go over and beyond in helping to make a difference with your ongoing education programme and pioneering research and development. And that matters to each of us. Thank you.
Better YouVegan Health Daily Oral Spray £14.95 for 25 ml; DLux 3000 Spray £7.95 for 15 ml; Magnesium Oil Original Flakes £9.95 for 1 kg

The Ingredient of the Year Award

And the winner is: Neurophroline. I opened the June newsletter with these words: ‘So what if I told you that there is a serum that has been clinically shown to take the stress out of your skin. And what if I then told you that the stress hormone (cortisol) is indicated as affecting our skin in a major way, both internally and externally. Cortisol causes inflammation (fact), often resulting in anything from breakouts and redness to dryness and fine lines. But what if you could reduce cortisol in your skin. Enter Neurophroline’.

And enter it did. One of the most profound ingredients that I have ever come across and used, this has been one of my most favourite launches of the year (Victoria’s too) because it makes such a dramatic difference to the integrity of our skin. I can’t imagine life without Neurophroline; I use it every single day of my life, following through with Super Bakuchiol Serum (another story, another award) and Fulvic Face Cream.

And I’m not alone; thousands of you are with me on this and when Lisa Armstrong wrote about it in The Telegraph, I thought our site would collapse. Thankfully it didn’t and actually this is the serum that will help stop your face collapsing too. And I am still running around my bathroom screaming take my stress Neurophroline, take it, take it, take it as I wrote in June. And approximately ten bottles in, it still does. And always will.

The Over-We-Go-Award

And the winner is: The VH Supplements. I am very aware that I am self-awarding here, but almost without exception, our bestselling supplements are our own. This year we re-branded several of these supplements. We didn’t change the formulations, but mostly we did this because Shabir formulated most of them anyway, but they had always carried the individual manufacturers branding, not our own.

In other words, I suppose we are walking our talk and we do of course fully endorse the products that we believe are best-in-class, and with thorough research, development and due diligence, in our humble opinion these are. As masters of our own destiny, if you will, this also allows us to make a stand against the eye-watering cost of ‘designer supplementation’ and I’ll leave it at that.

At the moment, there are twelve VH products, which include Superior Hair, Superior Joints, Hyaluronic Acid High Strength Capsules, Sage Complex. Mega Probiotic ND and Sage Complex. The latest addition is Limitless Plus, which we consider to be a leading nootropic supplement formulated to help protect the brain tissues and improve memory and recall. It contains two patented natural nootropic extracts, Noomato and Neumentix, which synergistically offer neurological protection.

The Treat: On the link below, you will see all the VH products. If you buy any two of these products, and it doesn’t matter which, we will automatically include Mega Probiotic ND, worth £19.50, as a gift. This offer is for a limited time only and will expire, without exception, at midnight (GMT) on Thursday 5 December 2019 and it will not appear on your invoice, so once more, please don’t fret. And Go! ***Sorry this promotion has ended ***
VH Editorial: A Nootropic for 2020; VH SupplementsLimitless Plus £32 for 60 Capsules

Thyme Out

Last year I gave Thyme Out an award for the best multi-tasking product. At that time we called it a hero in its own bottle and although I’m not giving it an award this year, purely because I’m trying not to keep pressing the award repeat button, it was formulated to help an entire plethora of compromised skin conditions and it continues to do so. And then on the August newsletter, we launched Thyme Out For Wrinkles. So a treat, without an award, seemed appropriate.

The Treat: The demand for Thyme Out For Wrinkles was of course really high, so to acknowledge and celebrate that, when you buy Thyme Out For Wrinkles, we will automatically include the original full-size Thyme Out (200 ml) worth £18 with love and kisses from us. I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, but I need to say that this will automatically be included in your order and will not show up on your invoice. Once again we have a limited amount of stock, so once it’s over, it really is over.
Thyme Out For Wrinkles £20 for 120 ml (Thyme Out £18 for 200 ml)

The Thank You Award

And the winner is: Dr Colette Haydon; LixirSkin: In a way this is a very personal award from me to Colette. We do what we do and we do it together, with open hearts, with no expectation either way. And it’s just not about allowing me to launch her sublime products, it’s far more than that. Colette has an innate generosity, which is no small thing, and she is always there for me, no matter what. So please allow me to acknowledge that and to say thank you to one very special person. More than these words Colette. Merci.

But of course, I can’t move on without mentioning The Good Skin Trio Mini Set. Taking three of LixirSkin’s bestselling products, Vitamin C Paste, Electrogel Cleanser and Universal Emulsion, if you love LixirSkin, which so many of you do, The Good Skin Trio Mini Set is perfect for travelling, but also works as an introduction to the brand. One more thing. Colette, your Good Skin Day Shaker, which launched in April, was and is a stroke of genius. Again, thank you.
The Good Skin Trio Mini Set by LixirSkin £34; Good Skin Day Shaker £36 for 15 ml

The Charge of the Light Brigade Award

And the winner is: Boost At-Home LED Treatment Mask by The Light Salon. Do you believe in light therapy I asked on the May newsletter, because I do and now so many of you have joined me. I have to say that I remain totally addicted to my LED Mask and still use it virtually every day. What is there not to love about something that helps improve uneven skin tone and texture, all the while helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines. And on top of that, it brightens and hydrates so you don’t look tired, even though you may well feel it.

I write over and over that the health/beauty crossover is of paramount importance and on the health front the LED mask helps combat stress and anxiety as Near-Infrared has a balancing effect on cortisol and triggers our ‘happy hormones’, such as serotonin and dopamine. A hormone-balancing mask by any other name, there are many different masks now on the market. Do I think this is best-in-class. Yes I do and so do most people I know.

The Treat: When you buy the Boost At-Home LED Treatment Mask, we will automatically include a Boost Cleanse & Recovery Spray, worth £18, in with your order. This is the anti-microbial spray that you use in conjunction with the LED Mask to help calm redness and irritation. Self-gifting rocks.
Boost At-Home LED Treatment Mask by The Light Salon £395 (Boost Cleanse & Recovery Spray £18 for 100 ml)

The Never-Ending Love Affair Award

And the winner is: iS Clinical. Actually, being more specific the award goes to my LA boyfriends, Bryan Johns and Alec Call, founders of iS Clinical. We have listed iS Clinical almost since the very beginning of VH and iS Clinical time. We birthed ourselves more or less at the same time too. There is a very good reason why iS Clinical are one of the leading global cosmeceutical brands; their products are meticulously formulated and reflect the innate integrity of Bryan and Alec, which can never be under-estimated in this industry.

It now gives me the greatest pleasure to launch the newest product to the range, Genexc Serum. The thing is that I’ve had this product for about 14 months, which is when it launched in the US. I still can’t work out why we are so far behind in the UK, so much so that I almost forgot to launch it, but thankfully I remembered and it’s here now.

In a nutshell, using unique cutting-edge ingredients, Genexc Serum’s synergistic formulation of antioxidants and DNA repair Extremozyme Technology has been clinically proven to ‘turn on’ the genes that command cells to ‘return to youth’. In so doing, it is revolutionary and contains 20% of iS Clinical’s exclusive L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) which is formulated with a powerful combination of botanically sourced enzymes, antioxidants and fruit acids, sourced from both land and sea.

If you are an iS Clinical user, I know you will absolutely love this new serum. For sure it’s high-end, but if we are going high-end, then we might as well do it with style and my LA boyfriends have an abundance of that. I tried to marry them once because I thought it would be rather neat to be an iS Clinical heiress, but I failed miserably. Such is.
Genexc Serum by iS Clinical £80 for 15 ml; Genexc Serum by iS Clinical £140 for 30 ml

The Most Wanted Christmas Gift Award

And the winner is: The Glow Card by Sarah Chapman. I went early on Christmas gifting because I knew I wouldn’t have much room for it on this newsletter. I can now report that Sarah Chapman’s Glow Card went rampaging ahead as the most-wanted Christmas gift. Actually I’m not really surprised, it happened last year as well and will probably happen next year too, if they are still in production.

Actually, whilst we are talking about Sarah Chapman, can I just say that I am still besotted with her Pro-Hydro-Mist Steamer which I wrote about on the April newsletter. I love a good steam and this works so efficiently as it emits nano-sized particles that deeply penetrate the skin to effectively cleanse, de-clog pores and hydrate the complexion. To gift or self-gift. That is the question.

The Treat: When you purchase the Pro-Hydro-Mist Steamer, we will automatically include The Glow Card, worth £10, whilst stocks last. And for everybody else, I hope we have enough Glow Cards. Don’t shoot me if we don’t.
Pro-Hydro-Mist Steamer by Sarah Chapman £119; The Glow Card by Sarah Chapman £10

Formulator of the Year Award

And the winner is: Shabir. Look, I nearly didn’t do this because I know how incestuous it is, but I made an executive decision of one that I would give him this award. For Fulvic Face Cream alone I would have given him an award, but I have to take into account that he formulated all of the GoW for VH products, including Neurophroline and Super Bakuchiol, which is coming soon.

I could have left this award out quite easily, but I will always acknowledge greatness, even if it is Shabir. I hope he buys me a big fat present for bequeathing this upon him. I’m not holding my breath though. I might die in the process.

Two New Small Gifts And Another Thank You

A quick little departure from the Awards:

Ila have just released their Christmas Candle. It is called ‘All Is Calm, All Is Bright’. It is loaded with cinnamon, clove and sweet orange and I’ve burned my way through two of these, which makes me happy. Candles always do. Anyway it is £18 and in the interest of transparency, this candle is not boxed. I thought I had better tell you that for wrapping purposes, unless it is of course for you.
All Is Calm, All Is Bright Candle by Ila Spa £18

I have always had a big soft spot for Kneipp products and so I was thrilled when this landed on my desk. It is a miniature herbal bath collection. There are three products included: Balancing Herbal Bath, Back Comfort and Cold Season. I hereby declare it the best stocking filler of the year. Amen.
Herbal Bath Collection by Kneipp £5

My thanks to Cosmopolitan for giving GoW’s PHA Plus Serum an award for the Best Line Smoothing Serum in this year’s Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards. Made even sweeter because we didn’t pay for it (I refuse to ‘buy’ an award) and we didn’t know we were receiving it. Quelle surprise. We are thrilled and humbled to be included.
PHA Plus Serum by GoW for VH £14 for 30 ml

The Not All Products Are Created Equally Award

And the winner is: Super Bakuchiol Serum. Bakuchiol this, Bakuchiol that, it’s become a beauty buzzword, as I wrote on the September newsletter, but are all Bakuchiol products created equally? No they are not.

Super Bakuchiol Serum wins this award because it has been formulated using Sytenol A, which unlike most other Bakuchiol or Babchi oils, contains 100% well-defined Bakuchiol Oil. The science and clinicals behind the efficacy of Bakuchiol have been carried out by Sytheon, an innovative USA-based ingredient company. Its founder is Dr Ratan K Chaudhuri, who states the following:

There is a big difference between Sytenol A (Bakuchiol) and Bakuchi (Babchi) oils you find on various sites. Sytenol A is a 100% well-defined pure material, whereas Babchi is undefined material with a low level of Bakuchiol. The Sytenol A trademark presents the gold standard in the marketplace and is REACH registered. These milestones have been reached through extensive safety testing and performance, including various clinical studies, performed on and with the high purity Sytenol’.

So going back to the beginning, not all Bakuchiol products are created equally. The studies published in peer review journals and findings are specific to Sytenol A Bakuchiol and cannot be transferred or imputed to Bakuchiol generally or Babchi Oils. Thus the difference and thus the award.

The Treat: The feedback on Super Bakuchiol Serum has been outstanding, but then this is the real thing, the truly authentic, clinically proven Bakuchiol.

To celebrate integrity in products, which is so important to us, we have put together a Super Bakuchiol Twin Pack, which is £20, saving you £10 when you buy the twin pack. I don’t know how long this offer will last because we have a limited amount available, so once it’s gone, it’s gone and it’s not coming back.
Super Bakuchiol Serum Twin Pack £20 (Super Bakuchiol Serum £15 for 30 ml)

VH Editorial

This month:

At this time of year, one of the biggest concerns spoken about are the elevated amounts of alcohol that people may indulge in. Many will try to justify excessive alcohol consumption by stating that they do not drink excessively throughout the year. But is this argument justified? Shabir takes a look.

Normally, writes Jo Fairley, my Christmas is a sort of military operation. I’ve been known to buy the first of the following year’s Christmas presents in February, I tend to get panicked if I don’t have the crackers before Bonfire Night, and if you stand still long enough in my house during advent, you’re likely to find a bauble glue-gunned to a limb … and if anything doesn’t seem to be going ‘to plan’, I am as a rule not a happy camper. But this year, Christmas is going to be a little more unpredictable in our house …..
The Argument For Having a Low-Key Christmas by Jo Fairley

The appetite for natural beauty has grown exponentially in 2019, and there’s zero sign of it slowing down. This past year has been largely about subbing in synthetic formulation for those that are natural. But why exactly are we so taken by all things natural, and why now? Rebecca Fearn investigates.

You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody’ – Maya Angelou. There’s beauty, strength and stillness in Maya Angelou’s words says Carolyn Asome, there’s also a lot to love about someone who values themselves. It is the quickest way to a restful night’s sleep, a deep sense of inner calm and an unfurrowed forehead, give or take a bathroom cabinet filled with GoW’s Neurophroline Serum.
Knowing That You Are Enough by Carolyn Asome

It had been a while since I’d played this game. Maybe even half a century. It’s night-time, a comfy 30 degrees and we’re at a party that’s progressed into the pool. I have one foot on someone’s shoulder – David? Thomas? Richard? It’s difficult to distinguish between them as I heave myself into the clutches of Liz who’s waiting for me to complete the human pyramid.

Finally I’m up and for a few seconds we are a triangular mass of wobbling post-youth bodies that then crash into the inky water, shrieking like the children we once were. Jackie Annesley muses on how to be less miserablist in 2020 and offers six amusing ways to achieve this.

Not sure if you’ve noticed, but there’s a shift away from Christmas presents this year according to the Beauty Bible girls. Lots of people we know are going without, or giving to charity, which is lovely and has its own feel-good factor of course. And we kind of get it. Both of us have received too many presents over the years which just aren’t ‘us’ and soon after Christmas make their way to a carrier bag near the door, waiting for the next stroll past Oxfam.

But this, for us, is where beauty ‘treats’ score as gifts. Chosen well, they simply don’t hang around for long enough to gather dust and over the years we’ve learned which gifts are pretty fail-safe choices. Mostly because they would please us and we love a bit of pampering and self-TLC. We have spent enough time in this business to know what’s worth asking for, and what’s worth giving.

The End Bit

The final newsletter of the year is always a bit bonkers and this year is no exception. Over the years the December newsletter has always been the one where, together with Shabir, I share all that is good in our world, which is our way of thanking you for your loyalty and support.

I have always believed that none of us can do so much of what we do on our own. We all need our hands holding at times and I am so very grateful to all who have held my hand this year when I needed it the most. They know who they are.

But more than anything, it is our collective resolve to help make a difference together and we are only able to do this because you allow us to. Without each of you, there would be no VH, but as it is we have a rather magnificent platform where we stand together as one.

So as this year draws to a close and together with the entire VH team, I wish you the very best of everything and a healthy and happy New Year. Don’t ask me when I’ll release the January newsletter, it will happen when it happens, whatever that means.

With love
