Travel-Size Beauty Kit: The Best Products Under 100ml

  • I don’t know what I did before I discovered Victoria Health. Its co-founder Gill Sinclair is my oracle, introducing me to new and small beauty brands and health supplements for every complaint. I’ve never met her, but I religiously read her newsletter and buy everything she recommends. Gill loves Ameliorate body lotion, which was developed thanks to one woman’s dissatisfaction with her ‘chicken skin’. The main ingredient is lactic acid, a mild yet powerful exfoliator that keeps on working to get rid of dead cells long after you’ve rubbed your cream in. I never doubted Gill, but this is very, very good for dry skin. No more lizard legs, rough bumps are evened out and skin is noticeably softer to the touch. Personally, I prefer the fragrance-free version, as I don’t like my body lotion and perfume to clash.

Cailyn O Circle Brush

    BRUSH work

There are make-up brushes, and then there are make-up brushes. The new Cailyn O Circle Brush, looks like a shaving brush but feels like a chamois. It has more than a million micro-fine bristles, sliced at a 35-degree angle to make it easier to get closer to the hairline and into the creases around the nose. Good with moisturiser but even better with foundation: we’re now utterly addicted to the finish it gives- like airbrushing without the air.

Rainbow Volume S Brush

Rainbow Warrior – India Knight discovers a bizarre looking brush to banish bad hair days and big up lank locks.

  • Picture 7042

As I’ve written before, for me, the gold standard of hairbrushes – the transformative ones that actually make your hair better and healthier – are Mason Pearson brushes. However, not everybody has difficult, multi-problematic hair, and Mason Pearsons are expensive (though they do last for ever if you take care of them). This column is less for the person with calamitous hair in every respect, and one more for the person who wants one thing – volume.

Flat hair is the pits, unless you are folk singer from the 1970s or have a comb-over. Even really bad hair improves from being bigger: it’s more flattering around the face (unless you’re made of cheekbones and angles). If your hair is prone to lankness, volume will at least make it look a bit sparky and alive. Volume is especially important if you are fat of face, because a lot of face with not a lot of hair looks unbalanced, like some Valkyrie carrying a minuscule handbag. If your hair is thin, you want to make it look less thin. So volume via big hair really is a good idea, for everybody. Read More…
