A Natural Remedy for Varicose Veins, Spider Veins, Haemorrhoids and Poor Circulation

HorseChestnut_2010_08_27_Beetham_032

Millions of people worldwide suffer from diseases associated with poor circulation. Varicose veins, Spider Veins and Haemorrhoids are just some of the common circulatory disorders directly associated with poor circulation. Circulatory concerns do not occur in a day. They are often a result of poor dietary and lifestyle choices, although they may also be associated with the ageing process. Poor circulation primarily affects the legs and feet, however the implications of poor circulation are widespread and severe. Numerous concerns associated with poor circulation also include leg ulcers, tired and heavy legs, reduced libido, persistent wounds and infections, Restless Leg Syndrome, shortness of breath, mental fog, poor memory, dizziness and a lack of energy.

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are swollen and enlarged veins that are usually blue or dark purple in colour occurring most frequently on the inside of legs or the back of calves. They often look knotted or twisted and are usually raised and swollen above the skin’s surface. Varicose veins are caused by what is termed venous insufficiency. The heart is supposed to pump oxygen and nutrient rich blood to the whole body through the arteries. Veins are supposed to take blood back to the heart from the lower limbs. Veins have valves which basically act as one-way flaps and prevent the blood from flowing backwards as it moves up the legs. However when the valves become weak, blood leaks back and collects in the vein. The vein becomes enlarged by the pooled blood and become varicose. This should not be ignored because this can result in further complications, including sore and inflamed areas on legs, leg ulcers, varicose eczema and itching.

Gravity, body weight and the job of carrying blood from the lower parts of the body back to the heart are the reasons that the legs are the primary location for varicose veins.

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are like varicose veins only they are much smaller, often blue in colour and lie close to the skin’s surface. They have the appearance of branches of a tree or a spider web, hence the name. Spider veins are usually found on the legs, but they can also be found on the face either confined to a small area or sometimes to a large area of skin.

What are haemorrhoids?

Haemorrhoids, often also referred to as piles, are basically varicose veins in and on the outside of the anal region. When the blood vessels inside the anal canal become swollen, they are referred to as internal haemorrhoids. Often internal haemorrhoids cannot be felt, but when irritated there may be blood on the toilet tissue when having a bowel movement. External haemorrhoids can be felt on the opening of the anus and often bleed. They are very uncomfortable and although there are a number of reasons for both types of haemorrhoids, primarily poor circulation is the causal factor resulting in swollen veins in the anal region.

If you suffer from any of the above concerns, and the numerous other concerns associated with poor circulation that I have mentioned earlier, then it is time to take charge because the implications of poor circulation can be severe and need to be addressed as soon as possible in order to prevent possible major concerns in the future.

How can you improve poor circulation?

There are literally hundreds of herbal supplements that claim to address poor circulation. Traditional herbal supplements often incorporate ginger, turmeric, Gotu Kola, pine bark extracts or vitamins such as vitamin E, which often work to thin the blood or prevent platelets from clumping together. They however do not address the primary cause of poor circulation which is the improper functioning of the valves within the veins. It is the loss of elasticity of the valves, or is some people the dislodging of the valve tissue itself, that leads to the accumulation of blood in the veins and all the possible concerns that I have mentioned above. But help is at hand by way of a supplement called Diosmin Plus by VH.

Why is Diosmin Plus good for poor circulation?

Diosmin is a naturally occurring hesperidin bioflavonoid extracted from the rinds of the sweet oranges. There are some supplements on the market which use Diosmin as part of the ingredient listing to alleviate some of the concerns mentioned above. However, the single biggest problem with Diosmin is the fact that it is poorly absorbed by the body

Diosmin 95 is a standardised, high-potency bioflavonoid extract, which has been shown to reach the bloodstream and work within the veins to reduce all the markers for poor circulation.

Diosmin 95:

  • Has been used extensively in Europe by women for over 30 years to achieve smoother, shapelier, and more slender looking legs.
  • Improves the symptoms and appearance of varicose veins, spider veins, heavy leg syndrome and chronic venous insufficiency resulting in poor circulation.
  • Alleviates both acute and chronic pain and swelling of haemorrhoids.
  • Leg ulcers show marked improvement when Diosmin 95 has been used.
  • Reduces pain and swelling in legs and ankles helping the legs feel lighter.
  • May also bring relief to people suffering from Restless Leg Syndrome.

Diosmin Plus contains Diosmin 95 together with time tested herbal extracts that work to support the circulatory system and include Horse Chestnut, Dandelion, Gotu Kola, Ginger and Pine Bark Extract.

  • Horse Chestnut: has significant vein tonifying effects and improves lower limb circulation.
  • Dandelion: has confirmed diuretic properties easing the symptoms of heavy legs.
  • Gotu Kola: numerous studies indicate its effectiveness in the treatment of varicose veins and venous insufficiency. Additionally, Gotu Kola has positive healing effect on skin and all the connective tissues.
  • Ginger: an excellent warming and circulatory herb.
  • Pine Bark Extract: a rich source of specific antioxidants that help to protect the capillaries by binding to collagen.

Summary

Almost a third of the adult population in the UK have some kind of circulatory disorder. Whilst varicose veins and haemorrhoids are big concerns, the underlying effects of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), although not life threatening, can be very uncomfortable. Diosmin Plus is an absolute must supplement for the treatment of varicose veins, spider veins and haemorrhoids but also helps to alleviate the symptoms associated with poor circulation which I have mentioned in the opening paragraph.

Caution: Diosmin Plus is not suitable for people on blood thinning medications such as warfarin, though perfectly safe with low dose aspirin.

How long before you see results on Diosim 95

  • http://www.victoriahealth.com/ Victoria Health

Hi Pauline, the circulatory benefits are experienced very quickly and often within days. As for the other benefits, this may take longer and I would allow 2/3 months to evaluate its efficacy.

Thank you so much for writing this post! My wife recently developed Varicose veins after giving birth to our two sons. She is currently very insecure seeing these veins. We tried the AVC methods but yielded no results! I am thinking of getting her some essential oil. But wanted to find out anyone has tried this method? I read an article on another blog saying Cyprus essential oil are the best. Anyone have any experience with them? http://heysoulcrystals.com/essential-oil-for-spider-veins-on-legs/

  • http://www.victoriahealth.com/ Victoria Health

Hi Danny, I have heard of essential oils being used for many concerns but have never used these for poor circulation or varicose veins.

  • http://www.victoriahealth.com/ Victoria Health

Dear Pauline, we have searched for your emails and do not appear to have received them. In any case, Diosmin Plus is safe to be taken on a long term basis but I would have thought that you would have seen some benefits within the six month period. I know that it certainly helped with your chilblains from your previous comments.
    Best wishes,
    Shabir

Shabir, I have poor circulation problems with swelling at my ankles and hands. I also suffer with Dermagraphia. I take antihistamines for this which started as Uritcaria 30 years. I had a period of 15 years where my skin had settled. Would the Diosmin help with the Dermagraphia?

  • http://www.victoriahealth.com/ Victoria Health

Hi Zahdah, Diosmin Plus certainly won’t be detrimental for the dermatographia and it may actually be of benefit.
    Best wishes,
    Shabir

  • Zahdah

Thank you Shabir. I will try the Diosmin Plus. I have had a lot of issues with the dermagraphia during the hot spell.

  • http://www.victoriahealth.com/ Victoria Health

Hi Zahdha, the inclusion of Gotu Kola may be of benefit since it aids lymphatic drainage which is where some inflammatory compounds are stored and eventually eliminated.
    Best wishes,
    Shabir

Thank you so much Shabir. Your prompt advice is much appreciated. I do hope this will alleviate my problems. In emergency the hospital has placed me on steroids. I do not wish to be on them. Thank you once again.

    Hello there Shabir,
quick question about Diosmin + sold by VH, and LifeTime Diosmin Complex with Hesperidin. what is the difference between the two?
I have taken LifeTime’s Diosmin Complex (1XDay) for a few days, and felt it ws starting to work. Could really feel something happening within the body at a circulatory level. After a few days, approx a week, I decided one morning, to increase (as directed) to take 2 instead of 1. Approx 45 min went by, when all of a sudden I had a severe adverse reaction (eg: vomiting, sweating, heart racing, diarrhea).
I also take every AM 2 Moringa capsules, 2 Ashwagandha caps, and 2 Cruciferous Veggie caps, and a Biotin 5,000 mg
I have always suffered from poor circulation, swelling of feet, ankles….Since menopause things got considerably worse. Cramping in calves, thighs and feet at night, and during the day, but what’s really causing discomfort is my freezing feet, even with cozy warm socks on, day or night.
Can you please explain, if you can, the reason for my adverse reaction, and why does one Diosmin also contain Hesperidin, and the other (the VH) does not.
I have not touched the Diosmin Complex since, also because it took me a few days to feeling like my normal self again. I wanted to see if maybe the VH Diosmin was better suited for me rather than the Diosmin Complex with Hesperidin, or maybe I should avoid them altogether.
Thank you in advance for any reply given.
    Much Love,
    Alexandra Ticoras

Hi Alexandra, Diosmin 95 is the more concentrated form of diosmin which is a bioflavonoid that which has been shown to enhance the tone and health of veins within our bodies. Hesperidin is an other bioflavonoid of which there are hundreds and it may well be that you are allergic to one of both of these bioflavonoids. Diosmin Plus provides a more comprehensive formulation of circulatory enhancing herbs that other similar products.
    Best wishes,
    Shabir

  • Mstico

Thank You Shabir for your prompt reply.
Since at this point I am not sure which of the bioflavinoids I might be allergic to, do you think I should give it a go with the Diosmin Plus? I would like to go by process of elimination, at the same time, I am apprehensive because I don’t want a repeat of that adverse reaction. Scared the beegeebees out of me, to say the least.
    Much Love,
    Alexandra

  • http://www.victoriahealth.com/ Victoria Health

Hi Alexandra, this is a difficult one because I would want you to experience the same reactions if it were to be the diosmin that you are allergic to.
    Best wishes,
    Shabir

  • Mstico

Thank you Shabir, indeed it is a difficult decision to make. I appreciate your advice and input, and will ponder on the idea of trying or not trying VH’s Diosmin Plus. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us and replying to our inquiring minds.
    Much Love,
    Alexandra

14months now on Diosmin plus still have my spider veins ?????

  • http://www.victoriahealth.com/ Victoria Health

Hi Pauline, if you have not seen any improvement in the appearance of spider veins then I suggest you stop the Diosmin Plus and investigate other options as I have not come across any supplement better than Diosmin Plus.
    Best wishes,
    Shabir
