Sunburn / Burns

Sunburn is caused by excessive exposure to the sun’s ultra violet (UV) rays. Most sunburns are first-degree burns that cause the skin to become red, warm and tender to the touch. Depending on the severity of the burn, it may subsequently “cool” into a suntan or thin layers of skin may peel off. Second-degree burns are more serious and go deeper than the surface layer of the skin. It is extremely painful and, for children, highly dangerous. Dehydration often accompanies sunburn and symptoms do not necessarily appear whilst you are in the sun, they may begin from one hour to twenty-four hours after sun exposure. Prevention is better than cure and there are numerous nutritional supplements and topical natural treatments now available to provide protection when you spend time in the sun.
