Highly contagious, Athlete’s Foot is caused by one of two fungi – trichophyton and epidermophyton – which like to grow in the warm, moist areas between the toes. The fungi live off the dead skin cells and calluses of the feet causing inflammation, itching, burning, scaling, cracking and blistering.
