The B vitamins help to maintain the health of the nerves, skin, eyes, hair, liver and mouth as well as healthy muscle tone in the gastrointestinal tract and proper brain function. B-complex vitamins, often referred to as "stress busting vitamins", act as coenzymes, helping enzymes to react chemically with other substances and are involved in energy production. They may be useful for alleviating depression or anxiety as well.
Vitamin B6, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12 are required to reduce homocysteine levels in the body. Homocysteine is linked to cardiovascular health and to the neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease and a decline in cognitive performance (senile dementia). Since the B vitamins work in synergy with each other, it is best to use a high dose Vitamin B Complex.
